Abstract

The Galician Counseling of Health carries out an influenza vaccination campaign every year, which aims to protect people who are at greater risk of complications or, vaccinating people at risk of transmitting the flu. The objective of this study is to carry out an intervention to strengthen this work and, in addition, to propound a pair of questions: Does a proactive campaign by health workers increase the rate of vaccinated against the flu virus? What impact does it have on the number of incomes? For this way, we have carried out an organizational intervention with a before-after evaluation in those whose reference center is the Bueu health center and who are at risk to get the flu. Participating a total of 8 family doctors, 6 nurses and 5 residency family sistems of the Bueu health center to cover a total of 11,827 people, we carried out various strategies during the vaccination campaign in order to increase flu vaccine coverage. The conclusions drawn showed “two faces”. In our year of intervention, a 6% increase in vaccination coverage with respect to previous years was collected. These followed an increasing trend of between 1 and 2%. In this way we can see that we managed to increase the rate of vaccinated in the area. However, it didn´t seem to influence in hospital admissions.
