Abstract

Background: Acinetobacter baumannii is a pathogen that has emerged as a serious threat to human health due in part to its ability to develop multidrug resistance and in part to its ability to cause life-threatening infections. Objective: To carry out a proteomic study of Acinetobacter baumannii strain AbH12O-A2 in order to understand the pathobiology of this bacterium and to know the mechanisms of interaction between this bacterium and a eukaryotic cell, and to gain new insights into the mechanisms of host adaptation. Methods: Acinetobacter baumannii strain AbH12O-A2 has been subjected to various experiments in multiple conditions, the protein content of cell and the cell secretome were analyzed by separation techniques such as gel electrophoresis and liquid chromatography, and identified by mass spectrometry techniques and transciption. Results: Several groups of proteins overexpressed and underexpressed have been identified in this study and their pathogenic interest has been highlighted. Conclusions: The studies carried out in this work provide a global and integrated view of the pathobiology of Acinetobacter baumannii, the interaction of this pathogen with eukaryotic cells and its persistence in hospital environments that increase the knowledge to identify antibiotic targets and for the development of vaccines. Currently, several researchers have used our results for the rational design of vaccines that confer partial protection.
