Abstract

It is important for the clinician to be competent in diferentiating between dental orthodontic problems caused by malpositioned teeth on well-proportioned jaws and skeletal orthodontic problems caused by a disproportion in the size or position of the jaws. Essentially, there are three alternatives for treating Class II skeletal problems: growth modification, dental camouflage and orthognatic surgery. We present a case treated with a new alternative to routine orthognatic procedures in treating mandibular discrepandes: distraction osteogenesis.
