Abstract
The oral mucosa in patients affected by Down's syndrome presents some special clinical features such as "high arched" palate, macroglosia, fissures on the tongue and lips, distorted oral opening (open mouth) and tonsil hypertrophia. The mucosa is frecuently affected by oropharingeous infectious-inflamatory processes. For all of these reasons, we are interested in checking the state of the epithelium of the mucosa. For this aim we have made a cytological study of epithelial cells because it is a simple and ungory method if we take account the cases that have been analysed.
