Resumo

We pretend knowing the prevalence of the diabetic retinopathy, and so we carry out a study on a non-selected diabetic population, in endocrinological consultings and health centers, in a total of 500 diagnosed diabetics (1.000 eyes). We study the time of evolution, type and treatment of the diabetics, visual acuity and eye fundus. The prevalence of diabetic retinopathy is of a 37,8%, being 43,7% in the DID, and 36,9% in the DNID. The time of evolution definitely conditions the prevalence, this one, oscillating between the 69,4% in the DID with more than 15 years of evolution and the 24,5% in the DNID with less than 5 years. A 31,4% of the patients present a visual acuity inferior to 0,400 and a 4% inferior to 0,100 in both eyes.
