Resumo
Objective: To know what was the cure of Dr. Elik, used to treat traumatic injuries during the spanish civil war. Method: Descriptive study of bibliographic review. Selection and reading of historical documents from 1936-1939. Narrative exhibition of texts and cases referring to the era. Results: Dr. Elik was a military doctor of czechoslovak origin who participated in the spanish civil war. In 1938, he published a paper in the "Revista de Sanidad de Guerra" where he describes how to apply his device to treat traumatic wounds and avoid using dressings or bandages. Conclusions: Elik's cure was the result of medical innovation due to the scarcity of bandages and gauze during the spanish war. His technique was economical, but no clinical evidence is known.
