Abstract

Hyperammonemia is one of the most severe acute complication that can occur in various congenital metabolic conditions such as the urea cycle disorders, organic acidemias or fatty acids oxidation defects. The prompt recognition and treatment is a clinical emergency, since the neurotoxic effect is directly proportional to the time of exposure to high levels of ammonia. We report the clinical case of a 30-year-old patient with a decreased level of consciousness and a 24-hour evolution of high plasma ammonia
