Resumen
Aging is a physiological process that can be dignified with suitable physical therapy interventions. In primary care teams, the physical therapist is an indispensable professional for the development of many interventions in the elderly: preventive and health-promotion activities, social tasks, including the evaluation of deficiencies and functional limitations, research work, etc. This article presents a study of an elderly population carried out in Orense province, Spain, in 1997. The demand for physical therapy was related with sex. The most frequent type of referral (family doctor or rehabilitation specialist) was determined, as well as the average patient stay in relation to pathology and referral type.
