Abstract

Objective: To obtain the variation in the smoking register in the electronic medical record (EMR) of Primary Care(PC) Doctors after conducting an awareness campaign, in an urban Health Center (HC) Design: Intervention study with pre and post evaluation (18 months) focused on Family Doctors (FD). Doctors with stability in their workplace ( >6 months) who accepted participate were included and medical records of the patients( Age>15 years old) were evaluated. Method: two interventions in family doctors during “Semana sin humo, Semfyc” (May 2015 and May 2016) in order to improve smoking habits register in EMR were done. Clinical sessions, review of recommendations of the Program of Preventive Activities and Health Promotion (PAPPS), posters, individual reminders, etc. were carried out. This study was approved for an Autonomic Ethical Committee (CEIC-Galicia 2015/141 Results: We analyzed the registers of 9(45%) doctors, of the 20 that works in our Health center. 13109 patients assigned to these 9 doctors were analyzed. Were registered as smokers 676 (5.16%) patients, n the first pre-intervention registry. In December 2015, at 6 months of the intervention, they increased to 835 (6.37%) patients and in the third registry (December 2016) were 957 (7.3%) registered patients. Conclusions: An awareness-raising intervention in smoking improves registration in medical record.
