Resumo

This article is about claiming the right to diagnose and not reject hysteria in mental health work. It also has the sense of making an appeal to professionals in this field, especially psychiatrists, in order to renew their attention and interest in the hysteria that seems forever lost from the field of their concerns after the publication in 1980 of the DSM-III and its subsequent derivatives. A study is also made of the main aspects that have influenced this abandonment, while at the same time a tour is made of some of the authors who were most particularly interested in hysteria and those who contributed to its disappearance. Special mention is made to suppress countertransferential attitudes in their treatment in the face of the concern that creates the enigmatic nature of their symptoms and encourage them not to go back to the challenge that these symptoms cause in therapists.
