Aim: Describe the relation between adherence to antihypertensive medication and the generic prescription drugs. Material and Methods: Observational and prevalence study. The sample are 100 hypertension patients that they have presenting for treatment to Hypertension Unit of Hospital Universitario de Ferrol. Results: The average age is 59.71 ± 13.97 years. 84% are aware of their disease. The 86% of patients have a good compliance, Morinsky-Green´ test. 36% of the patients are confused whit the current change to e-prescription and active ingredient. Non-adherence is associated with a poor perception of active ingredient (p = 0.027; OR = 0.98) and living in rural areas (p = 0.028; OR: 2.13). Conclusions: The perception of generic prescribing is bad but adherence is good (86%).The no adherence was greater in those patients who lives in rural areas and patients with a poor perception of e-prescription and active ingredient.
