Resumo

The article aims to rescue the value and dynamism of the use of words in medical encounters. There is evidence of a paradigm shift in the way the patient wishes to be treated by their doctors. Medical communication as a basic competence to build a “new doctor and a new patient”. A medicine of “futility” fruit of a deficient communication. A gap between the intention to reveal medical error and reality. Training in communication and bioethics as the tools to use the right word. Legal and political support is essential.
