Cogí mi camino y me salí. Historia de un proceso migratorio

Abstract

Many adolescents arrive illegally in Spain and they are then particularly vulnerable from a bio-psychological and a sociological standpoint. To better understand the experience of one of these adolescents, I did qualitative research in the form of a biographical account after an in-depth interview. The interviewee was a young man from sub-Saharan Africa who detailed his migration experience up until the present day. His story explained the gap between his own and his family’s expectations, his decision to migrate, the journey, his arrival, settling in and adapting and the feelings he experienced throughout the process. He showed an ability to struggle and overcome problems, and adapt for an adolescent that revealed his strength. Through his tale we can better know and understand the migratory process which although it is different for every person, does reveal some similarities for all.
