Abstract

Introduction. The off-label concept refers to the use of a drug in different conditions than those authorized in the technical label. The objective of this study is to establish the Family and Community Medicine (CFM) residents knowledge on the subject. Method. Descriptive cross-sectional study of regional scope, through an online survey of residents (n=359) who are studying any of the four CFM residence years in the Autonomous Community of Galicia Teaching Units . Results. 81 surveys were received. 80.2% identify the off-label concept correctly, only 24.7% would use all the authorized label options available before use off-label, a half would previously obtain the Informed Consent (IC), majority expliciting to the patient the use in off label conditions. A half consider the benefit of the patient the most important thing, and that would justifies an off label treatment, although it had a little scientific evidence. Conclusions. Although the results are acceptable, susceptible to improvement areas are identified in the global concept that would allow consolidating the off-label prescription in optimal conditions among future CFM specialists in Galicia.
