Resumo
Celiac disease (CD) is an enteropathy consequence of an aberrant immune response mediated by T lymphocytes against gluten. For the development of the disease it is necessary a genetic predisposition and gluten exposure; however, other environmental factors (dietary, infections, increased intestinal permeability...) act as triggers. The main genetics factors associated with celiac disease are major histocompatibility complex class II genes, that encode human leukocyte antigen HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8. Recent genome-wide association studies have led to the identification of several non-HLA risk loci for celiac disease.
