Objective. Evaluate level of knowledge and perception of the primary care (PC) professionals regarding the measures adopted to deal with the COVID-19 at the onset of the pandemic. Material and methods. Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study. At the onset of the health care crisis, SEMG prepared a questionnaire on the measures adopted against the COVID-19. PC professionals who anonymously responded online between 10 and 14 March 2020 were included. Variables were collected: sociodemographics, related with the training/information received on the approach to the SARS-CoV-2 infection; related with the protection measures adopted in the work site and the degree of concern and prevention perceived by the professionals. Results. 1332 professionals answered the questionnaire. 65.1 % were women and mean age was 51.2 years (SD 1.5). 79.5 % were family doctors and 80.1% worked in a health care center. 44.5% stated they had received adequate training and 94.5% that they had read the Health Care Ministry protocols. A total of 41.4% considered that the protection measures recommended were not being adopted due to lack of resources: 14.9 % stated that they did not have sufficient FFP2/FFP3 face masks; 15.9 % lacked waterproof hospital gowns and 16.2 % safety eyewear. 86.6 % stated they correctly did hand hygiene and 29.1% had the skills to put on and take off the individual protection adequately. Their perception of the work protection level was 4.07 (SD 0.06) and level of concern with the situation was 7.40 (SD 0.06). Conclusions. The PC professionals confronted the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic with concern, unprotected due to lack of material, and with some misinformation and lack of organization.
