Abstract

Jerónimo de San Lence (1884 - 1960) studied medicine in Santiago de Compostela. In 1904, he joined the Cuerpo Militar de Sanidad. He studied at the Instituto Oftalmológico Nacional and at the Clínica Oftalmológica of the Hospital del Buen Suceso in Madrid. In 1907, he presented his doctoral thesis at the Universidad Central in Madrid. He did international stays in Bordeaux and at different hospitals in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In 1909, he joined the Hospital Militar in A Coruña. He achieved a great scientific activity and published in multiple relevant scientific journals. He edited multiple books that reached a vast expansion at the time. Between 1929 and 1936, he was heavily involved in political activity, supporting the Galician Statute of Autonomy from a moderate political position. After the Spanish Civil War, he published multiple articles in newspapers about cultural and social topics whilst continuing to publish in scientific journals and to collaborate in professional conventions.
