Fractura de la extremidad distal del radio en paciente con osteoporosis y déficit de vitamina D

Resumo
Distal radius fractures have a high incidence, representing a large part of fractures treated in a general trauma consultation. In Spain, they are the second most frequent vertebral fracture, with a higher prevalence in females. According to several authors, they are considered a predictive factor of new osteoporotic fractures, and vitamin D deficiency may also be associated with a delay in the consolidation of these fractures. After analyzing the data obtained from the review of this case, we could conclude that, when treating a young patient with a fragility fracture of the distal radius, we should not only rule out the presence of osteoporosis, but also the associated vitamin D deficiency. It is important, therefore, to replenish adequate levels of vitamin D, which, while not accelerating the consolidation process, guarantees it, helping to prevent new osteoporotic fractures, improving neuromuscular function and preventing falls. Treatment with PTH 1-34 in this type of fracture if indicated by the underlying disease may accelerate the repair process of the radius fracture.
