Abstract

Objective: To compile the available evidence of topical treatments for the healing of skin tears in older people. Methodology: Literature review study. Search in databases (PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL and Web of Science). Selection according to PRISMA 2020 flow chart, critical reading of the full text and evaluation with the JBI evidence scale. Results: 163 articles were found, of which only 5 were valid to carry out the study: 2 descriptive observational articles, 2 non-systematic reviews and a clinical case. The quality of the evidence was low, level 4-5 according to the JBI scale. Conclusion: Hydrosensitive dressings and hydrogels promote rapid and adequate healing. Promising advances include the use of cyanoacrylate liquid and negative pressure therapy. Caution should be exercised with adherent dressings and less harmful alternatives should be sought. Although more research is needed, it is important to improve the methodology and standardize self-care to prevent complications.
