Resumo

Objective: To determine the association between different factors and the duration of sick-leave. Material and method: A prospective cohort study of 1,408 subjects, aged 18 to 69. Data on individual and work-related factors were collected by means of questionnaires. Results: The processes without definitive diagnosis to surpass the standard time were 56%. We have found an influence between different individual factors linked with lifestyle and subjective health of the subject and the duration of sick-leave. The work-related factors were the job, the company, the contract, and occupational risk. The relationship between per capita income of the municipality and the duration of the low ratio is significant (p<0,001). Conclusion: The investment in health and occupational programs based on factors that prolong sickness absence would mean an improvement in the overall health of workers and a decrease in disability.
