Abstract

Developing teamwork skills is crucial for students to meet the demands of a highly collaborative future workplace. Despite the efforts of teachers at different educational stages, the reality of the university stage suggests that there is still place for improvement in the approach of collaborative projects. Therefore, we propose the development of a novel teaching methodology based on cooperative teamwork in which different participatory roles were included. This new dynamic was implemented in the seminars of the Ethology subject of the Biology Degree at the Complutense University of Madrid. Surveys were carried put on the development of the activity, and on the degree of students’ satisfaction with it. The results show that most respondents were satisfied with the new dynamic. However, a small percentage considered that cooperative work is not essential for their future professional development, and that it had not contributed to a greater collaboration among the different team members. At the same time, the vast majority did not consider the distribution of roles within the team to be important. In summary, we consider that it is still necessary to provideuniversity students with specific training in this area.
